Chemical Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science (e.g. chemistry and physics) and mathematics, for the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful & valuable forms.
In addition, for producing useful materials, modern chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable techniques – such as nanotechnology, fuel cells and biomedical engineering.
The TWO main sectors in this field are:-
XII with : 1. Phy + Maths + (Chem. / Comp. Sc./Bio) with Min. 50% OR 50% with qualified rank in UPSEE-18. FOR B. Tech. Bio Tech- Phy + Chm. / Comp. OR PCB with Min.50% OR 50% with Qualified UPSEE-18 Rank
Direct Admission : 1. Rank in UPSEE-18 Phy + Maths + (Chem. / Comp. Sc./Bio) with Min. 50% OR 50% with qualified rank in & 2. Diploma in Engg. With at least 60% or B. Sc (with Maths) with at least 60%
Typical career path scenarios for Chemical Engineering are :
Career Path 1: Production of Chemical Products:
This refers o the work of the production of chemicals and related by-products. This is the career path that the majority of chemical engineers follow. This field involves actual production of substances with new properties which requires new methods of production and the actual chemistry involved in it.
Career Path 2: Devising Ways to Solve the Social Problems:
This refers to innovation in the application of chemical engineering. A career path in this area can involve advanced graduate work; followed by a position in a research university or industrial research & development laboratory. It may involve the environmental regulations e.g. pollution control, micro control, biotechnology etc. Also in energy sectors such as energy conservation, research on alternate energy sources, health related research projects etc.
Career Path 3: Planning and Managing Organizational Infrastructure:
This refers to designing, supervision, construction, installation & operation of plants & equipments. This career path refers to the application or development of chemical technology. They are employed in service industries such as scientific research & development services, particularly in energy & the development fields of biotechnology and nanotechnology.
The college has well equipped chemical Lab facilities and students are encouraged to acquire application skills and practically verify the knowledge in the class room. Various departments and programmes have their independent labs and workshops. HCST labs and workshops are amongst the best equipped in the country second only to the Govt. funded IIT’s.
The first and foremost effort of our department is to establish well equipped laboratories and acquire useful software like ASPEN PLUS and MATLAB and develop meaningful links with industry.
